I stream live content from YouTube all the time on flights where the WiFi is working. I’d say it works 80% of the time. I have 28 flights this year so it’s not a smallish sample size.
I will be traveling on an upcoming Sunday and wanted to watch NFL RedZone on the flight, but ive yet to try streaming with the wifi on the flight before. I've found if the wifi is working, you can watch live TV, which will include a few games.

On both flights, watched NBA Playoffs via YTTV (SW TV doesn't have TNT) and it was nearly perfect. Trying to load a static Facebook, Reddit, Amazon, etc. page takes forever and times out, but somehow streaming YTTV worked just fine for me.
