Question. I am in the process of booking a hotel. Which district has lots of shops, cheap restaurants, malls, nightlife, and lots of walkable attractions. My first option is Jumeirah area along the beach front.
There are loads of 4 and 5 star hotels in Dubai. The city sort of has two centres. One near the airport and creek (old Dubai) and another along Sheikh Road, down at the Dubai Mall, Burj Khalifa area where there are also beaches reasonably close.
If you plan to spend a lot of time at the Dubai Mall/downtown area, stay closer. If you are going to be visiting a lot of different places all over Dubai, pick a central spot in your budget. If a view is important, that's one thing.
Best area to stay on vacation in Dubai. I am going on vacation in 3 weeks with my wife and 2 young kids (2 and 4) for 5 days and was wondering what may be the ideal area to stay in Dubai. Downtown? By Dubai mall? Jumeirah Beach? Elsewhere? I will be renting a car but don’t want to spend most of my time just driving around?

Best resort: Mid-range: Sofitel Palm Jumeirah Upper-range: Bulgari Resort. Best business hotel: Mid-range: Oberoi Dubai Upper-range: Four Seasons DIFC. Best boutique hotel: Hotel Indigo Business Bay.
If you want city living, check out something in Trade Centre, DIFC or Downtown Dubai. If you want something with a beach view, check out Dubai Marina or JBR. If you are looking for something on a budget, check out Barsha Heights or Al Barsha.
If this is your first time in Dubai, you would want to see the main attractions in Dubai so for that reason Downtown / Sheikh Zayed Road is good for that. Dusit Thani, Four Points Sheraton, Rose Rayhaan, Towers Rotana are nice hotels. There's also Ritz Carlton around the area if you are posh.
