Alternative assessments aim to provide complex assessments and multiple, rich evaluations. These methods also provide rich, realistic information about students’ achievement, encourages their active participation, and holds them to high expectations for in-depth understandings of challenging academic content.
This paper attempts to elaborate a number of alternative techniques and distinguishes between alternative assessments and traditional form of assessment. It advocates the opportunities of alternative assessment that help students to become active, dynamic and spontaneous in their language learning process.
