You can pay for bags starting 24 hours and up to 2 hours before your scheduled departure. You can't pay for bags online if you’re waitlisted, standing by for another flight, or had a flight disruption and you haven’t confirmed your new flights.
Charges are calculated based on standard bag sizes for flights, per person, each way. You can pay for bags online ahead of time when traveling on eligible American Airlines marketed and operated flights.
Carry-on bag. The total size of your carry-on, including the handles and wheels, cannot exceed 22 x 14 x 9 inches (56 x 36 x 23 cm) and must fit in the sizer at the airport. Soft-sided garment bag. Your soft-sided garment bag cannot exceed 51 inches / 130 cm (length + width + height). Musical instruments

For travel on / before April 16, 2024, we only accept checked bags up to 126 in / 320 cm (length + width + height). For travel on or after April 17, 2024, checked bags over 115 in / 292 cm in total dimensions (length + width + height) are not accepted on American Airlines operated flights.
