2 Φεβ 2023 · Generally speaking, a flexible flight ticket is one you can change or even cancel without paying an additional fee. These ticket policies differ between airlines. Most will offer you a refund or the option to change your travel dates for free if you need to cancel your flight due to COVID-19.
If you booked at least 2 days before departure, you can get a full refund within 24 hours from the time you bought your ticket, no matter if it's refundable or non-refundable. A refundable ticket allows you to change or cancel your flight without a fee.

Rules are different for those booking with airline miles. “Involuntary refunds” may be issued in certain circumstances. Death or illness may not always waive cancellation rules.

If you bought your American Airlines ticket directly from us, you can request a refund online. We'll process your refund back to the original credit card within 7 days (it should appear on your statement in 1-2 billing cycles).
If flight is cancelled or delayed more than 3 hours after original departure time, the airline will rebook you on the next available flight on a reasonable route from the same airport within 48 hours.
