Falls City is a city in Karnes County, Texas, United States. The population was 514 at the 2020 census. [4] Falls City is near the location of a uranium tailings disposal cell, completed in 1994 under the terms of the 1978 Uranium Mill Tailings Radiation Control Act. [5]
22 Σεπ 2023 · In 1895 Falls City had one general store, a post office, two saloons, a lumberyard, a hotel, a depot, two livery stables, and a steam mill and gin. The principal place of business was the Schulz Mercantile Company, which operated in a large brick building until it burned down in 1935.
History in a Pecan Shell. The town was formed by populations drawn from the previously settled (1850s) towns of Marcelina and Home Valley when the San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railway built a switch here in 1886.
Polish-American farmers east and west of the town did most of their trading at Falls City, which incorporated on September 28, 1946. The discovery of oil helped the town to grow.
The history of Falls City actually starts two years before its birth in the Karnes County seat town of Helena. The Christmas of 1884 was the saddest Helena has ever endured.
