Cumberland is an incorporated village municipality east of Perseverance Creek, near the east coast of central Vancouver Island, British Columbia. The Comox Valley community is west of BC Highway 19 and is by road about 105 kilometres (65 mi) northwest of Nanaimo and 10 kilometres (6 mi) southwest of Courtenay .
Cumberland is a small village in the heart of the Comox Valley in North Central Vancouver Island – a favourite stop for visitors and locals alike. A jewel for the community is Cumberland Forest with awesome Douglas Fir, hemlock and red cedar and often used for mushroom picking, walking, hiking and mountain biking.
Beneath the shadow of the Comox Glacier, nestled at the foothills of Beaufort Range, lies the fast growing village of Cumberland. Cumberland has an interesting history, being a coal-mining town from 1888 to 1966. This amiable community is undergoing a serious cultural transformation.
