Simply put, pivot weight refers to the minimum chargeable weight for a specific type of container or Unit Load Device (ULD) used in air cargo. Shipments that fall below the pivot weight for a particular ULD are charged a higher rate per kilogram, known as the under-pivot rate.

18 Φεβ 2023 · For each container type, a minimum weight (pivot weight) is taken as a basis, which is charged regardless of the actual weight. If the actual weight is above this minimum, a surcharge per pound or kilo is levied for the difference ( over pivot weight ).
A ULD is charged at an under-pivot rate if the total weight is below a threshold limit, called the pivot-weight. Additional weight is charged at the over-pivot rate. We propose a solution methodology based on Lagrangian relaxation that is capable of providing high quality solutions in reasonable computational times.
