19 Απρ 2024 · Mononucleosis tests include the mono spot test and antibody tests. These tests are essential tools for diagnosing mononucleosis and detecting the Epstein-Barr virus infection (EBV).
Mono tests are used to help diagnose a mono infection. Your provider may use a monospot to get fast results. Results are usually ready within an hour. But this test has a high rate of false negatives. So monospot tests are often ordered with an EVB antibody test and other tests that look for infections. These include:
18 Φεβ 2024 · The results can show if you are susceptible to mono, meaning you don’t have the antibodies. If you are currently infected with EBV or have been infected with it in the past, you should test positive for antibodies.
The mono-test (mononuclear test) is a test that quickly detects heterophilic antibodies (adhesins). The positive result in the mono-test with concomitant clinical and / or hematologic findings confirms the diagnosis of infectious mononucleosis.
What do the results mean? If your monospot test result is positive, it may mean you or your child has mono. If it is negative, but you or your child still have symptoms, your provider will probably order an EBV antibody test.
Serologic test results include: A normal to moderately elevated white blood cell count. An increased total number of lymphocytes. Greater than 10% atypical lymphocytes. A positive reaction to a mono spot test.
12 Απρ 2022 · The results are simply positive or negative. If positive, you have the antibodies present in your blood and your immune system is fighting a mono infection. Negative results mean no antibodies were present and either you don’t have mono or a follow-up test will need to be done.
