Anyone who plans to dig should call 811 or go to their state 811 center’s website to request the approximate location of buried utilities be marked. 811 is the national call-before-you-dig phone number.
Anyone who plans to dig should call 811 or go to their state 811 center’s website a few business days before digging to request that the approximate location of buried utilities be marked with paint or flags so that you don’t unintentionally dig into an underground utility line.
Notify utilities of your intent to dig by calling 811 or making an online request a few days before you plan to break ground. Your state 811 center will inform utility operators in your area that they need to mark any buried utility lines on your property with paint or flags.
Let us know when and where you're digging (call 811 or use our online services) and we'll notify our member utility companies so they can mark their lines, pipes or cables near your job site. This is a FREE service.
811 is a free service managed by Underground Service Alert (USA) and available to everyone. After you call, USA will contact PG&E and other companies that have underground lines in your area. Representatives will then mark the location of their underground lines so you can avoid them and dig safely.
