This American National Standard is a revision and expansion of American National Standard Graphic Symbols for Electrical and Electronics Diagrams, Y32.2-1970 (IEEE Std 315-1971). A variety of specialized symbols originally used for aircraft applications have been added to make this standard more comprehensive.
symbols (such as j, exp, Cu) are used to indicate mathematical operations, chemical elements etc. Frequently occurring technical phrases are commonly rendered as abbreviations (such as e.m.f., p.d.). In circuit diagrams, graphical symbols identify network components and devices.
Electrical and electronic symbols Education The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) is working to engineer a better world. We inspire, inform and influence the global engineering community, supporting technology innovation to meet the needs of society.
This document provides definitions and symbols for over 100 common electrical and electronic components. It includes symbols for wires, switches, sources, grounds, resistors, capacitors, inductors, diodes, transistors, logic gates, amplifiers, and miscellaneous components.
Components are normally represented by universally accepted symbols. TABLE 1. INDIVIDUAL SYMBOLS. The one-line diagram symbols presented here are commonly accepted symbols. Individual symbols with an identification and brief explanation and/or application are presented first.
