Development is: (1) multi-dimensional, (2) multidirectional, (3) plastic, (4) influenced by multiple contexts, and (5) multidisci-plinary (Baltes et al., 2006; Overton & Molenaar, 2015). Consider the many changes that mark each period of development and it is apparent that development is multidimensional.
Learning Outcomes. Describe Baltes’ lifespan perspective with its key principles about development. Explain what is meant by development being lifelong, multidimensional, and multidirectional. Explain contextual influences on development. Figure 1.
