The Toyota 2000GT is a limited-production front mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive, two-door, two-seat sports car/grand tourer designed by Toyota in collaboration with Yamaha. First displayed to the public at the Tokyo Motor Show in 1965, the 2000GT was manufactured under contract by Yamaha between 1967 and 1970.
Taking the OHC, straight-six engine from Toyota's Crown deluxe sedan model as a base, it was further developed into a DOHC design that produced a maximum power output of 150 hp. 1 Ιαν 2020 · The M-series straight six engine fitted to the 2000 GT was based on the flagship Toyota Crown powerplant. In the pursuit of greater output, the Crown unit was substantially modified. Most significant was the presence of a special Yamaha-designed aluminium twin cam head with wide 79° valves and hemispherical combustion chambers.
The engine was derived from the Crown saloon and extensively modified by Yamaha to produce 150bhp. The straight six engine was fitted in an X-backbone type chassis which was very similar to a Lotus Elan chassis.

Built on a sturdy X-backbone frame, the 2000GT's 4-wheel independent suspension had double-wishbones front and back. The engine, a 1988cc DOHC 6-cylinder with 3 Solex carburettors, produced 150 horsepower. This could propel the car to a top speed of over 220km/h.
