Use Form 8809 to request an initial or additional extension of time to file only the forms shown on line 6 for the current tax year. Note: Extension requests for Forms 1099-NEC, 1099-QA, 5498-QA, and W-2 must be submitted on paper. Who should file.

The Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes (PATH) Act of 2015 accelerated the due date for the filing of Form 1099-MISC that includes NEC from February 28 to January 31 and eliminated the automatic 30-day extension for forms that include NEC. This change created two due dates for the same form, depending on whether Box 7 reported NEC.
