SteamVR only shows 1 base station online, however, both of them are showing red LEDs (sensors) and the solid green light - this confirms they are connected. 1 is set in Mode A and the other is set in Mode B. That's it! (Base stations are normally Mode B and C) without the long link cable.

You may set up the base stations in a way that's suitable for your place. For best results, you may follow these recommendations: Mount the base stations diagonally and above head height, ideally more than 2 m (6 ft 6 in).
I don't know what new base stations would have to do with melding play areas, but the MeganeX is a SteamVR headset that uses inside-out camera head tracking (i.e. Not Base Station\Lighthouse tracking).
