8 Ιαν 2024 · Recoil Graph Comparison. The recoil of the .30-06, while substantial, is manageable coming in at about 24.27 ft-lbs of recoil energy with 14.94 fps of recoil velocity. It has less recoil than the 7mm Rem Mag and the 300 Win Mag, making it the 3rd most powerful recoil in this comparison.
The .300 Win Mag is a bigger and bulkier bullet with more recoil power than the .30-06. However, it is also clear that it has a flatter trajectory on a long range and is far ahead than the .30-06 at a range beyond 500 yards.
Assuming a 7 lb rifle for both calibers, the .300 Win Mag has approximately 35 ft-lbs of recoil, while the 30-06 is slapping your shoulder with 23 ft-lbs. That’s a good 12 ft-lbs less recoil for the 30-06, and that’s not nothing. However, there is another factor that we need to consider, and that’s rifle weight.
