Give each student a “Rocks & Minerals” Science Journal. Review the unit topics and the science journals with the students. Project each page of the science journal onto the board either through a projector or PowerPoint presentation.
14 Νοε 2012 · This document provides information about the three main types of rocks: igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic. It describes how each type forms and gives examples. Igneous rocks form from cooling magma or lava. Sedimentary rocks form from compaction and cementation of sediments.
In this resource pupils will examine and compare different kinds of rocks and learn that all rocks are made from a mixture of minerals. They look at how the three main rock types are formed and their properties. Pupils also look at how rocks change over time through erosion and weathering.
Unit Plan - Grade 3: Rocks & Minerals. Exploration 1 - Freely Exploring Minerals. Time frame: 1 -2 days. Group Activity 1 - Mineral Sorting. Bring a sample of minerals or rocks to class, preferably from a rock / mineral kit. Note: Let's Do Science recommends allowing 2 - 4 weeks for delivery of ordered kits.
