24 Φεβ 2024 · Complications of 5th metacarpal neck fractures include digit malrotation, nonunion, joint stiffness, grip weakness, neurovascular injury, and loss of the 5th knuckle's aesthetic appearance. Open fractures and fight bites predispose to infection.
Overall, 61 cases (10%) were treated surgically. Types of surgical treatment included K-wire fixation (37), plate fixation (15), screw fixation (8), and external fixation (1). Figure 2 presents the treatment and management distributions for all included 5MCN fractures.

2 Ιουν 2017 · The aim of this study was to investigate clinical outcomes of fifth metacarpal neck fractures using antegrade single elastic nail and to explore ideal puncture point to avoid iatrogenic ulnar nerve injury. Methods. A single elastic nail with suitable diameter was used in 27 cases of fifth metacarpal neck fractures with dorsal angulation over 45°.
Abstract Objective. to demonstrate a surgical technique for treating neck fractures of the fifth metacarpal, by means of reduction through intra-focal manipulation and percutaneous fixation using Kirschner wires, with the aims of making it easier to achieve and maintain the reduction during the operation and enabling reduction of these fractures even if a fibrous callus has formed.
