9 Parachute Squadron RE (often abbreviated to '9 Sqn' [9]) is an airborne squadron of the British Army's Corps of Royal Engineers. It is part of 23 Parachute Engineer Regiment based at Rock Barracks in Woodbridge, Suffolk and provides close engineer support to 16 Air Assault Brigade Combat Team.
9 Parachute Squadron has retained its airborne role continuously since 1942 and remains the longest serving in-role airborne unit in Airborne Forces. The Squadron’s history goes back to 1787, when the Chatham Company of “Royal Military Artificers” was raised at Chatham.

Just in case, I have left off all references to Para, Indep, Cdo, Airborne, Airfield, Support, Hug, Pugh or Barney McGrue, and the unit is simply referred to as 9sqn on this site. I'm sure you're all smart enough to work out if you served with these people or not!

9 Parachute Squadron RE (also known as '9 sqn'[1]), is an airborne detachment of the Royal Engineers, part of the British Army. Like other units comprising the Royal Engineers, soldiers in the squadron are called sappers.
