The following Nazi 98k rifles are RUSSIAN CAPTURES in EXCELLENT external condition with either laminated (or, infrequently) solid-walnut buttstocks as-noted (some having visible Nazi cartouches on the right side of the wood).
During World War II, the Soviet Union captured millions of Mauser Karabiner 98k rifles and re-furbished them in various arms factories in the late 1940s and early 1950s. These rifles, referred to by collectors as RC ("Russian Capture") Mausers, can be identified by an "X" stamp on the left side of the receiver.

A Russian capture is the most commonly commercially available K-98k in the United States. The Russians “refurbished” these captured rifles after the war re-bluing the metal and refinishing the wood with a kind of deeply stained shellac.
7 Σεπ 2020 · We don’t know exactly, because the French burned the Mauser plant to the ground in ’46, after having their fill of the Germans in two wars. I’ve seen Russian-capture 98/K98 rifles (including a couple from the surrender of the 6th Army at Stalingrad) that were horribly rusted/pitted below the wood.
