THE RUSSIAN BLACK FINISH OVER PITTED METAL IS PROBABLY 98%. THE LAMINATED WOOD SHOWS YEARS OF WEAR AND THERE IS A 3” CRACK STARTING RIGHT BEHIND THE RECEIVER TOP SIDE.
Caliber: 8mm Mauser (7.92x57mm) Action Type: Bolt Action, Internal Magazine. Markings: There is an import mark on the barrel that reads “K98 GERMANY 8MM / C.A.I. ST. ALB. VT.”. The top of the receiver is marked “dot”, German inspection stamp “eagle / 63”, and “1944”.

Caliber: 8mm Mauser (7.92x57mm) Action Type: Bolt action, internal 5 round magazine. Markings: The left side of the receiver is marked with a reichsadler, “2118”, “f”, and “Mod. 98”. The top of the receiver is marked “42”, “X”, and “1939”.
The Russians loved to electropencil non-matching parts as if they were matched and would mark each capture with an “X” mark on the receiver. A nice example will be priced at around $350. Mauser Code quick reference:
The top and left of the receiver are each marked with an “X” which is a Russian Capture mark. The rear of the bolt assembly (twice) and the bottom of the trigger guard are marked in electro pencil which is common for Russian Capture rifles.
