9 Μαρ 2023 · When it comes to analyzing WWII-era firearms, one of the most important markings to look for are those of the German Mauser K98. These guns feature a variety of Nazi-era stamps that provide valuable information about their origin, production date, and other details.
Caliber: 8mm Mauser (7.92x57mm) Action Type: Bolt Action, Internal Magazine. Markings: There is an import mark on the barrel that reads “K98 GERMANY 8MM / C.A.I. ST. ALB. VT.”. The top of the receiver is marked “dot”, German inspection stamp “eagle / 63”, and “1944”.
The left side of the receiver is marked with a Nazi “eagle / swastika”, with the serial number, “Mod.98” and with a partial “X”. The “X” is a Russian capture mark. The right side of the receiver is marked with 3 Nazi inspection stamps “eagle / 655”.
The top and left of the receiver are each marked with an “X” which is a Russian Capture mark. The rear of the bolt assembly (twice) and the bottom of the trigger guard are marked in electro pencil which is common for Russian Capture rifles.
