Generally, S. pneumoniae pneumonia, and other bacterial infections, should be treated for 7 to 10 d, and there are no data showing that a longer duration of therapy is needed for bacteremic patients, provided that the patient has had a good clinical response.
14 Αυγ 2018 · In previously healthy patients who are appropriate for outpatient treatment, recommended first-line treatment is with a macrolide antibiotic such as azithromycin targeting the most common causal pathogen S. pneumoniae. Doxycycline is an alternative option.
