  1. 30 Νοε 2007 · Strictly speaking, adjacent means 'lying next to', so the 'to' is redundant. However, although correct, this sounds archaic. Therefore 'to' is usually added in speech and everyday writing. Adjacent is falling out of fashion, and 'next to' or (for emphasis) 'right next to' would be used. 'Right' in this usage means immediately or absolutely next to.

  2. 1 Μαΐ 2016 · Bevj said: You don't have fame-adjacent, it is used as an adjective. It means something like cerca de la fama, o en contacto con gente famosa. Mira aquí: Continuing our ongoing series of “Interviews with the Fame Adjacent” Kyle is here to tell us about his exploits as a Make Up Artist for film and television in Toronto.

  3. 7 Αυγ 2021 · Senior Member. Fresno CA. English (US - northeast) Aug 7, 2021. #4. If a cafe is on a street corner, there are 3 adjacent corners. When there is a 2-street intersection, the 4 corners are sometimes called "adjacent". That may be the meaning, but I'm not sure. "Nearby" is much more natural than "adjacent".

  4. 18 Σεπ 2018 · In a legal context, "consecutive" prison sentences come one after another without a break, but the usual meaning of "consecutive" allows a gap between two events, as does "subsequent". You can also use the more common term "immediately follow (on)" and its variants: "B and C follow immediately on from each other".

  5. 4 Φεβ 2011 · Suppose that the atoms in this question have the same radius and the distance between adjacent atoms. If you would have a time, list the words meaning "nearby" in the order from the closest to the farthest. (e.g.) abutting = adjoining < contiguous (formal) = adjacent < proximal < close < nearby = neighboring (formal) (its my current ...

  6. 3 Απρ 2012 · American English. Apr 3, 2012. #2. I can't provide a source. This is my understanding. You need to be outside of the room, and you need to be next to the room. Then, you could maybe say: I'm adjacent to the room. Even then, it would sound odd, but I couldn't consider it wrong. "adjacent" is most often used for stationary objects.

  7. 22 Ιουν 2014 · British English. Jun 22, 2014. #8. This seems to me like an invitation to waffle. I accept. As Julian has said, and as I'm sure you know, 'adjacent' can be understood geographically, and more generally still, spatially. Whilst two fields (prairies, meadows, whatever) can be adjacent, it is, again, a stretch to consider the two fields (subjects ...

  8. 27 Ιουν 2011 · Thelb4 said: "Beside" and "next to" indicate that the object is directly adjacent to the subject, eg 'my phone is beside me', 'he lives next to me'. However, "near" and "close to" does not indicate this, and merely shows that it is not far away. I might say that I leave "near" or "close to" my friend who lives at the other end of the street ...

  9. 3 Οκτ 2013 · Here's another example to support "one seat away" being the adjacent seat. In cricket, you might well hear "He's just one run away from a century", meaning he's scored 99 runs. I can't imagine anyone assuming he has only 98 runs. I think the big problem here is the word "away".

  10. 20 Φεβ 2023 · A reversed card changes its meaning to the opposite. When it comes to a card in a ill-dignified position, it means that the card are surrounded by cards that affect its meaning. Think of the four minor suits (cups, pentacles, swords, and clubs) as members of four teams in a game, where cups and pentacles are friendly with each others, the same ...
