Age Applicants must be at least 20 years old as of the date of the application and 21 years old at the start of their Academy Class date. Applicants also must not reach their 35th birthday prior to their Academy Class graduation date .

In determining maximum age eligibility of veterans, the time spent in active military service during periods specified in Department of Personnel law and rules will be deducted from the attained age.

The New Jersey State Police Academy is located in Sea Girt, New Jersey, and training consists of approximately 24 weeks. The Academy is residential, and each recruit is required to report for training each Monday at 6:00 a.m.
Successful completion of the Academy Awareness program is mandatory to maintain eligibility in the selection process. Academy Awareness consists of classroom, physical fitness, and academy protocol instruction. Applicants are exposed to a highly regimented experience that provides exceptional exposure to the New Jersey State Police Academy.

All candidates must be: 20 years of age to apply to the PAPD Police Officer evaluation process. 21 years of age and have not yet reached their 35th birthday at the commencement of the Police Academy.
