The two main crops in ancient China agriculture were millet and rice. Millet was grown in the northern part of the country where the climate was dry and cool. Rice was produced in the southern part of the country where the weather was warmer and wetter.

Ancient China developed several unique farming techniques to help use every inch of available land. Terracing steep hillsides was common practice in ancient China. Terraces were carved into the hillsides which would then catch water ran downhill.
Ancient China is responsible for a rich culture, still evident in modern China. From small farming communities rose dynasties such as the Zhou (1046-256 B.C.E.), Qin (221-206 B.C.E.), and Ming (1368-1644 C.E.). Each had its own contribution to the region.
