Girls of the Year are always characters that originally are about nine to twelve years old (with an average age of ten), with stories set in modern-day America during the year of her release. The character is given a story that expands on her personality, a specific situation she is involved in, relevant social issue, and/or her personal hobbies.
Since 2004, at least three new dolls have been released every year, with the exception of 2010, in which Lanie Holland (the Girl of the Year) was the only doll released. 2022 is the year with the most new dolls released at 31 (3 of whom - Molly, 105 and 114 - were re-releases of previous dolls).
