They (Yelp) claimed that I received three direct phone calls, which is true, but they certainly weren’t from customers, rather, they came from other company’s attempting to sell me their products and services.

It's a blatant money-making scheme that preys on the desperation of small business owners. It's infuriating how they claim to be a platform for customer feedback and reviews, but in reality, they have no qualms about playing dirty to boost their profits. They couldn't care less about the struggles of local businesses.
Yelp’s policies strictly prohibit compensated and incentivized reviews as they can mislead consumers. To help inform people’s spending decisions, we issue Consumer Alerts that appear over a business’s reviews to warn people when we discover suspicious review activity.
