Surprisingly also those of legal drinking age enjoyed this fizzy concoction as well. In fact, Baby Duck which was produced by Andres Wine, was the best selling domestic wine in that decade.
In 1971, Andrew Pellers Ltd created Baby Duck, a soft-drink-sweet blend of red and white Chanté wines. Created at the Andrés Wines Port Moody winery in 1971, Baby Duck was the best-selling domestic wine in Canada during that decade.

Andrés cleverly finished Baby Duck with seven per cent alcohol because the lower alcohol meant lower taxes and thus a cheaper wine. The grapey flavours and sweetness appealed to palates of the day. Andrés advertised it heavily on television, even hiring an animal psychologist to advise how the ducklings should behave in the commercials.
Launched in the 1970s, Baby Duck once dominated Ontario's burgeoning wine market. It still holds its own, with forward sweet fruit and lively bubbles. Enjoy aromas and flavours of candied strawberries and red fruit preserve. Serve well-chilled with Asian cuisine, jerk chicken or smoky barbecue.
