7 Αυγ 2024 · Annular pancreas is a morphological anomaly that results in pancreatic tissue completely or incompletely encircling the duodenum. This condition can cause duodenal obstruction and is therefore important to recognize, as radiologists are frequently the first to make the diagnosis.
In four cases, the CT scans had been read at the referring institution as showing a pancreatic mass, but imaging at our institution confirmed the presence of annular pancreas. Secretin-enhanced MRCP was compared with non-secretin-enhanced MRCP in 13 cases.

It is thought to originate from incomplete rotation of the ventral pancreatic bud. This topic will review the pathogenesis, clinical manifestations, diagnosis, and management of annular pancreas.
Annular pancreas is a rare congenital anomaly, with an estimated prevalence of five to 15 cases per 100 000 adults (1). Depending on how much of the duodenal circumfer-ence is surrounded by pancreatic tissue, it can present as complete or incomplete annular pancreas.
