10 Φεβ 2019 · In addition to being one of the screws holding the case together, it was also anchoring one of the springs that forms the latch mechanism. As I said before, the repair was a clunky ground-down machine screw that stuck out way too far and interfered with installation of the lock.

Mortise locksets are a hallmark of older, high-quality doors. Unlike modern cylindrical locks, they’re set into a pocket—or mortise—cut into the door’s edge. This allows for a more secure and versatile locking mechanism. However, these complex mechanisms can sometimes jam, loosen, or develop other issues.
Specific to their range of ‘extending’ or ‘expanding’ dressing cases and boxes, there were two particularly impressive types of patented mechanism – the ‘Automatic’ mechanism and the ‘Angle-Wing’ mechanism.
