The AR5000 is without a doubt one of best scanners available today. Sensitivity, selectivity is excellent and overall performance is almost at IC-R9000 level, which is saying something! However there are a several aspects of this receiver that I did not like.
An outstanding performer, excellent build quality very rugged. Frequency accuracy was superb, sensitivity was excellent, selectivity was good and further enhanced when I fitted an RCA socket to the rear panel and wired it so my Timewave 599zx could use the excellent internal speaker.

11 Δεκ 2011 · After running the test version of Radio Control and comparing it to the information available on Arc5000 (I can't find a test version to try) here are my conclusions. The pluses of RC is that if you get the professional version, you can run hardware scans inside the software allowing full search and scan at hardware speeds.

I have owned the AOR 5001D for about 2 years now, listening an average of 4 hours per week. I use it for LF/MF/FM, (primarily) SWL and V/U Scanning (See the Receivers/Scanners Product Reviews section for my upcoming review of the AR5001 as a V/U Scanner).
