It's a common scam on LinkedIn. I applied for one at "Boardriders" and yeah they wanted me to buy all this stuff. They "deposit" money into your account that will never actually show up (but that they say just needs time to clear) and they try to get you to purchase the equipment right away.
The key to this scam is that they want you to buy all the home office equipment listed, from "AN APPROVED VENDOR". This is even when you could go up the street to Best Buy for less. Why?
The scam you by convincing you to send them money. They gain money. You lose money. It's a variant on a common scam. In this case they're setting you up to work remotely, saying they'll give you money for supplies/equipment. They send a check for $X, and you may or may not buy things.
