Arcturus is the alpha, or brightest, star in the constellation Boötes; for this reason, the star is also called Alpha Boötis. The star is highest in the sky at a 10:00 pm observation on June 11. It rises 50 days after the winter solstice and has always been associated with the advent of spring.
