Argentina has the largest Jewish population of any country in Latin America, although numerous Jews left during the 1970s and 1980s to escape the repression of the military junta, emigrating to Israel, West Europe (especially Spain), and North America.
As of 2021, over 85% of the global Jewish population resided in two countries: Israel and the United States. Additionally, 23 countries with Jewish populations exceeding 10,000 accounted for another 14%, while 77 countries, each with fewer than 10,000 Jews, comprised the remaining 1%.
Argentina’s Jewish community of more than 200,000 is the largest in Latin America and the seventh largest in the world. But Argentina is also a country where antisemitism is persistent and where the Jewish community has struggled mightily through the economic and political upheavals of the 20th century.

The estimate is based on a review of Jewish populations in 102 countries and territories with at least 100 Jews.
