18 Σεπ 2024 · The Armenian national basketball team defeated Malta, 84-68, on Sunday to win the gold medal at the 2022 FIBA European Championship for Small Countries. This was Armenia’s first international tournament under new head coach Kalamian, who is also the assistant coach of the NBA’s Detroit Pistons.

Yerevan, the capital and largest city, serves as the political, cultural, and economic center of the country.
In 2022, Armenia made its return to international play by entering the 2022 FIBA European Championship for Small Countries. The national team would make it all the way to the final to beat Malta 84–68, and finishing the tournament undefeated.
Armenia is looking to achieve good results during the first major basketball tournament on the level of national teams to be held in the country later this month, according to local basketball officials.
