A License to Carry (LTC) or Firearm Identification (FID) Card is required to possess or carry firearms in Massachusetts, unless otherwise exempt.
An alien or non-resident class A or class B temporary license to carry a firearm shall not be valid for the purpose of purchasing handguns, ammunition or ammunition feeding devices.
Persons with a valid Massachusetts LTC or a formerly issued and valid Class A LTC are allowed to concealed and open carry in places that are not prohibited. Prohibited cases are: a loaded rifle or shotgun may not be transported on any public way even with a Firearm Identification Card (FID) or LTC.
