26 Φεβ 2024 · Several causes of aseptic meningitis may exhibit most or all symptoms without actual meningeal involvement. Viral syndromes, in particular, frequently lead to symptoms such as headaches, muscle aches, weakness, and fever, even without direct meningeal inflammation.
Symptoms of meningitis vary from person to person. Some individuals may have no symptoms; others may have mild symptoms such as cough, runny nose, rash or low-grade temperature. Common symptoms are headache, stiff neck, sensitivity to light, tiredness, confusion, nausea, vomiting and fever.

Aseptic meningitis often has a similar presentation to that of bacterial meningitis (ie, fever, headache, altered mental status, stiff neck, photophobia), which can be a life-threatening illness.
