I think Ashanti is a case of how getting big too quickly can hurt you in the long run. When she first debuted, she was scoring #1 after #1 and winning awards right out the gate. She also put out her next two albums one year apart, which made her suffer from extreme overexposure.

It was released in early 2002 as the lead single from her very first studio album. “Foolish” was a chart-topper in America and broke into the top-10 on multiple charts around the world.
31 Μαρ 2002 · The disc’s lead single, “Foolish,” has already ascended the charts and it seems the Murder Inc. sound has fully captured the pop world—at least for now. But tracks like the flute-infused “Happy” are admittedly—and perhaps too obviously—influenced by other R&B divas like Mary J. Blige and rarely give way to anything fresh or new.

Ashanti earned generally mixed reviews from music critics. AllMusic editor Stephen Thomas Erlewine gave it a three-out-of-five-star rating and praised the "modern, post-hip-hop soul" sound, stating the album has "fairly fresh beats and lightly insistent hooks, and is just naughty enough".
