25 Νοε 2018 · 1 John teachse that assurance of salvation comes from the believer passing tests of life. Eternal life--the life of Christ--manifestes itself in righteousness, love, and belief.
The apostle John's purpose in writing the epistle of 1 John was to give true believers assurance of their salvation (1 John 5:13). In that small epistle John gives several marks to distinguish a true believer. True believers walk in the light (1 John 1:6-7).
The Bible consistently testifies to the assurance of salvation for all those in Christ and grounds that certainty first, in the objective promises of God and second, in the subjective work of the Spirit in both direct testimony and the indirect testimony of the fruit of conversion.
As John shows in 1 John 1:6-7, Christlike behavior is an evidence of genuine fellowship and that a person is truly walking with the Lord in the light. 1 John 1:6-7 If we say we have fellowship with him and yet keep on walking in the darkness, we are lying and not practicing the truth.
15 Μαρ 2024 · Assurance of salvation is the knowledge and confidence that one belongs to Christ (1 John 5:13). Christians find assurance through many means, including their faith. In fact, the Bible defines faith as “the assurance of things hoped for” (Heb. 11:1).
John Wesley based assurance on religious experience. He believed that believers have the ability to live above known sin (cf. Romans 6). Roman Catholics and the Church of Christ base assurance on an authoritative Church.
