11 Αυγ 2015 · The face, concave aspect of the ear pinnae, ventrum, axillae, inguinal area, perineal area and distal extremities are most commonly affected in canine AD (Fig. 8) [43], but breed-associated variations of body sites affected by canine AD have been identified (Table 3, Fig. 9) [3].
Results: The prevalence of cAD in the cohort was 52%. Most affected dogs (60%) developed signs of cAD during their first year of life and males were over-represented. The location of clinical signs mirrored those of previous descriptions. The severity of cAD was mild in 36% and severe in 13% of affected WHWTs.
Atopic dermatitis is characterized by chronic pruritis and a typical distribution of skins lesions. It is generally associated with IgE antibodies to environmental allergens to which susceptible animals are genetically predisposed to become sensitized. Diagnosis is based on clinical signs, history, and exclusion of other causes of pruritis.
