Aerodynamics of Road Vehicles. W. Hucho, G. Sovran. Published 5 February 1987. Engineering, Physics. Contents: Introduction to automobile aerodynamics. Some fundamentals of fluid mechanics. Performance of cars and light vans. Aerodynamic drag of passenger cars. Driving stability in side winds.
Modern motor vehicle aerodynamics is quite different from aeronautic aero-dynamics, from which it derives, not only for its application fields but above all for its numerical and experimental instruments and methods. The shapes of the objects dealt with in aeronautics are dictated mostly by aerodynamics, and the
22 Απρ 2014 · The objective of this chapter is to briefly explain some of the basic principles of fluid mechanics applied to road vehicle aerodynamics. It introduces the main concepts of drag, lift, boundary layer, wake separation, and so on.
The 1930s introduced a novel approach to automotive aerodynamics, focusing basic automotive engineering and achieving the first, serious production applications. Drastic changes to automobile design occurred in the 1950s, due to aerodynamic concerns.
