In adults, Baker's cysts are commonly associated with degenerative conditions of the knee, and patients may present with tightness, discomfort, or pain behind the knee.

Based on our experience and the cases reported in the literature, we propose for the diagnosis and treatment of an infected Baker’s cyst, a three compartmental staged new classification according to the cyst topography and septic condition of each compartment.
Surgery or other procedures. To reduce the size of the cyst, your care provider may drain the fluid from the cyst using a needle. This is called needle aspiration and is often performed with ultrasound guidance. If a joint problem is causing the cyst, arthroscopic surgery may be performed to repair the problem.

Most often it presents in adults aged 35-70 years.
