11 Μαΐ 2012 · Baofeng UV-5R: Extreme Receive Modification. [ Don't have a UV-5R yet? Get one here. Alvin and b1gslacker have been editing the .dat file to expand the receive frequencies of the UV-5R. As usual the results are a big of a mixed bag given the limitation of the hardware and software involved. Steve, WB8GRS, details the limiting factors:
A software engineer friend of mine modified his UV-5R to transmit on 220-band. We made a QSO, on 220 band. Then I flipped back to VHF, and still heard him. Same on UHF. As cool as making QSOs on three bands at once might be, we decided that it was time to kill that project.
