To book your online appointment you will need to fill in: your personal Taxisnet credentials. your contact details. Please note that someone else can book the appointment for you, but you must be present at the appointment. Loss or theft of ID.
Smart ID cards, which are set to replace the green, bar-coded ID books, were rolled out in 2014 and are currently only available to first-time applicants who are 16 years and older, and pensioners over sixty years.
You can apply for your ID book at any office of the Department of Home Affairs or any South African mission or consulate overseas. All applications are sent to the Department’s head office in Pretoria.
To book an appointment go to https://services.dha.gov.za/#/authenticate/identity. If you are 16 years and older, you may apply for identity document (ID). You will need an ID to register for your matric exams, get a driving licence or open a bank account.

Within 12 days, you can collect your Smart ID card. Today, the Department of Home Affairs launched the eChannel, which will simplify booking your application for your Smart ID and passport. This is a pilot project, and we are gearing up capacity to ensure a smooth experience for all who apply.
