The meaning of AD is Anno Domini or Year of our Lord referring to the year of Christ’s birth. The meaning of BC is Before Christ. CE is a recent term. It refers to Common Era and is used in place of A.D. the dates are the same i.e., 2009 AD is 2009 CE. BCE means Before Common Era. For example 400 BC is 400 BCE.
As the name suggests, BC or Before Christ refers to the number of years before Christ was born. AD or Anno Domini is the period after Christ was born. BCE and CE stand for 'Before Common Era' and 'Common Era' and are alternatives to BC and AD respectively.
23 Μαΐ 2024 · BC means before Christ and AD means the year of our Lord. AD starts the year of His birth, not His death. No missing 33 years and that also is the reason why AD does not stand for after death.
27 Μαρ 2017 · According to multiple ancient sources, Herod died in 4 BCE. If the Gospel of Matthew is historically accurate, this would mean that Jesus of Nazareth was born on or before 4 BCE—meaning Jesus was born 4 BC (4 years Before Christ)!

The abbreviation B.C.E. means “Before the Common Era” and C.E. means “Common Era.” These new abbreviations evolved from the phrase Vulgar Era which appeared in a book published by Johannes Kepler in 1615, but that does not explain why these abbreviations have essentially replaced B.C. and A.D. in modern times.
