Plot summary. While returning from a battle victory, Macbeth, a powerful lord, meets three Witches who predict that he will become King of Scotland. Macbeth tells his wife of the Witches' predictions and she encourages him to murder the current king, Duncan, who is staying with them as a guest.

What does it show? 1, i “Fair is foul, and foul is fair” (The Witches) The witches capture a key theme of Macbeth – everything is upside down, things are never as they seem. Macbeth betrays the King, Lady Macbeth does not value the fact he is kind and true as well as loyal.
Macbeth’s obsession with power is shown “‘Fear not, Macbeth; no man that’s born of woman shall e’er have power upon thee’”. He does not quote the witches’ actual words, and changes it to a meaning in terms of power.
