Benign Rolandic Epilepsy (BRE) is one of the most common types of epilepsy in children. BRE affects both boys and girls, but is slightly more prevalent in boys. It usually starts between the ages of 3 and 12 years, and often stops around puberty (aged 14-18 years).
Benign Rolandic Epilepsy is a common, mild form of childhood epilepsy characterized by brief simple partial seizures involving the face and mouth, usually occuring at night or during the early morning hours.
Electroencephalography (EEG) is the most useful test for assessment of patients with epilepsy. It can help establish the diagnosis of epilepsy and determine the type of seizure disorder and its site of origin. Epi leptiform abnormalities in the EEG tracing may be focal or generalized.
