Chemotherapy cream or lotion can be applied directly onto the skin cancer. This is called topical chemotherapy. Usually a drug called fluorouracil (Efudix®) is used to treat some early superficial basal cell carcinomas (BCCs). Fluorouracil is sometimes called 5FU.
