18 Ιουλ 2012 · Anytime I have customers with cedar shingles/siding I always try to either use a good oil based primer or an alkyd modified wb bonding primer. I pretty use nothing but PPG Porter Paints, so my recommendations might not be as valid in your neck of the woods.
1 Ιουν 2018 · With smooth/flat siding you can sand the transition between peeled and sound paint but with cedar shingles there isn't a lot you can do. Oil base primer is best because it both adheres well and will block tannin bleed although with older siding the risk of the latter is diminished.
10 Οκτ 2022 · For perfect paint on bare cedar, it’s important to start with primer for good adhesion and stain blocking. Using a roller, liberally apply Benjamin Moore’s Fresh Start All Purpose Primer, then back-brush with the grain to remove excess buildup.

l am using finger jointed clear cedar to replace some trim around my house, and I would be grateful for advice on the best primer to use. In the past when I have stripped off the old paint, I used BM Moorwhite alkyd primer, topcoated with their MoorGlo (latex).
